Dexchlorpheniramine maleate
Indications/Uses
Allergic conditions including hay fever, urticaria, angioedema, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic eczema, atopic & contact dermatitis, drug & serum reactions, insect bites, pruritus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 12 mg/24 hr. Childn 6-12 yr 1 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 6 mg/24 hr; 2-6 yr 0.5 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 3 mg/24 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to antihistamines.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, bronchial asthma, hyperthyroidism, CV disease, prostatic hypertrophy. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, inability to concentrate, lassitude, dizziness, hypotension, muscular weakness, incoordination, GI disturbances, headache, blurred vision, tinnitus, elation or depression, irritability, nightmares, anorexia, difficulty in micturition, dry mouth, chest tightness, tingling, heaviness & weakness of hands.
Drug Interactions
CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, narcotic analgesics, sedatives & tranquillisers, MAOIs, aminoglycosides.
